The United States Government is supporting the opening of an Early Identification Centre for Children with Autism in St. Kitts and Nevis on Tuesday September 4, 2018. A US military flight containing supplies, worth approximately US$4,245.00, arrived today in St. Kitts under the Denton program. The USG program delivers humanitarian goods to designated areas throughout the world.
The Denton shipment, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, contains furniture, toys, screening and assessment tools, therapy materials (to improve sensory processing and communication skills) and office supplies. The commodities will support the opening of the St. Kitts Spectrum Services Centre, an evidence-based diagnostic and intervention center for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
Commenting on the shipment, USAID Mission Director, Christopher Cushing, said the United States Government was pleased to assist the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis in this important initiative that will “support the Ministry of Education to improve the services and interventions available to children who may need them and provide the necessary support to help parents and caregivers to work to improve the levels at which the children function.”
