SKN PULSE, Wednesday 7, December 2016 – Leading up to the Nevis Island Elections of 2013, the Hon. Vance Amory led CCM advised its supporters to vote them into Office and then they would tell of there plans. However, three years on: An Increase for the Premier and Ministers was slipped into the Budget estimates.
According to the leader of the Nevis Reformation Party, Hon.Joseph Parry, the increases highlights the deceitful behaviour and hypocrisy that is being exhibited by the Concerned Citizens Movement.
Parry’s startling revelation on the estimates for the last three years are as follows:
April 26th, 2013: DGG $138,480.00, Premier $123,024.00 & Ministers $115,140.00.
December 18th, 2013:
Premier $138,480.00, DGG $119,760.00, Ministers $115,140.00.
Estimates for December 14th, 2014
Premier $148,320.00, DGG/ 128,280.00, Ministers $123,360.00.
Estimates for December 8th, 2015: Premier $149,460.00, DGG $132,120.00, Ministers $127,080.00.
Estimates for November 30th, 2016:
Premier $149,460.00, DGG $132,120.00, Ministers $127,080.00
Parry revealed that the Premier’s salary has increased by $26,436.00 while the Ministers saw an increase of $11,940.00. He further lamented that instead of a 10% cut they have taken increases. A 33% increase for the Premier and a 23% increase for the Ministers.
He said while the Amory led CCM Nevis Island Administration agreed to take a 10% cut in salary to get elected, they must now answer to the people on this increase because clearly, there is something wrong with it.
Parry said “When you are going to talk about cronyism and nepotism and then give yourself an increase in hard times, something must be wrong.”
He further insisted that these annual increases weren’t properly ventilated in the public’s domain. He believes that this could only be classified as a clandestine act on behalf of the powers that be and it clearly leaves a sense of distrust in the minds of the populace towards the Amory led CCM Administration who was afforded the opportunity to not only spend the Public’s purse but also to be transparent, prudent and honest in their dealings .
It is rather suspicious that a Government refuses to come to Parliament to table and debate a bill which speaks to an increase of Government Ministers and excluding Opposition Parliamentarians. Something has to be wrong about that.
This is indeed a bad precedence being set.
