SKN PULSE (Feb. 24, 2017) – Team St. Kitts is off to an impressive start in the 45th annual Leeward Islands Debating Competition been held in Nevis at the Nevis Performing Arts Centre.
On opening night, Kamau Z. Grant and Khalifa Pencheon of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College scored 659 points to secure victory for Team St. Kitts. Their opponents, Team St. Maarten who was represented by Diandra Dieudonnee Marlin and Dawud Chapman were only able to score 567 points.
While Grant and Marlin led the debates for their respective teams, it was the seconders, Pencheon and Chapman who were given the Best Speaker Award.
The teams debated the moot “The high cost of youth unemployment relief programmes outweighs the benefits.”
The debate was moderated by Attorney Michelle Slack.
Later this evening Nevis will face Montserrat followed by a battle between the British Virgin Islands and Anguilla.
The first debate is set to begin at 6:30 (pm).
