SKN PULSE (February 25, 2017) – Khalifa Pencheon got the nod from the judges on Saturday night as she was named Best Speaker for the second time in two debates.
St. Kitts faced off against Antigua as they disected the moot “Caribbean cyber-crime legislation will lead to the suppression of free expression”.
Team St. Kitts was represented by Xavier Jon Bass and Khalifa Pencheon while Antigua was represented by Kelsey Harris and Ravi Davis of Team Antigua and Barbuda. The final points were Antigua – 607 and St. Kitts 540. Despite the loss, the Best speaker went to Khalifa Pencheon of St. Kitts.
Defending champions Antigua now advances to the final night where they would do battle against host team Nevis as they debate on the moot “the atrocity of our age is the billions of dollars spent on sports”.
This will bring a close to the 45th Annual Leeward Islands Debating Competition (LIDC) being held at the Performing Arts Centre (NePAC). The final debate begins at 6:30pm. The winner will be crowned the 2017 LIDC Champions.
In other LIDC happenings, Team Nevis represented by on Rol-J Williams and K-Jel Smithen debated Team Anguilla’s T’Arah Niles and Edwin Sutton in the second debate on Saturday night.
At the end of the night, Team Nevis amassed a total of 701 points while Anguilla totalled 656. The Best speaker was awarded to K-Jel Smithen of Nevis.
