Political Parties in St. Kitts nominated candidates yesterday, Wednesday 27 May in a very festive environment.
16 candidates, from three political parties, (St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party, Peoples Action Movement and Peoples Labour Party) were formally nominated and registered as candidates.
One Independent candidate was registered.
Processions with musical accompaniment or chants being echoed were the order of the day.
NextGenSKN candidate, Konris Maynard of the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party had masqueraders in his procession while Shawn Richards was seen sitting in the window of his campaign van as his jingle echoed through the area. In other constituencies, jublilant supporters lined the streets in their red, orange, yellow and black shirts with party flags.
In tabernacle at the Police Station, Prime Minister Harris clashed with Denzil Douglas, Leon Natta Nelson and Labour supporters for a brief moment.
Election 2020 has been a different experience for all parties. Nevertheless, the excitement levels are top-notch. Virtual concerts by both parties have become the new norm.
At the end of nomination day a total of 23 candidates were registered in St. Kitts and Nevis. The registered candidates on St. Kitts are:
Constituency One: Ian Liburd, (PAM) vs. Geoffrey Hanley, (SKNLP).
Constituency Two: Marcella Liburd, (SKNLP) vs. Jonel Powell, (PAM).
Constituency Three: Konris Maynard, (SKNLP) vs. Akilah Byron Nisbett, (PLP).
Constituency Four: Lindsay Grant, (PAM) vs. Steve Wrensford, (Labour) and Jason Thomas, (Independent).
Constituency Five: Shawn Richards, (PAM) vs. Kenneth Douglas, (SKNLP)
Constituency Six: Denzil Douglas, (SKNLP) vs. Kevin Ninky Williams, (PLP).
Constituency Seven: Timothy Harris, (PLP) vs. Leon Nata Nelson, (SKNLP)
Constituency Eight:Eugene Hamilton, (PAM) vs. Dr Terrance Drew, (SKNLP)
