SKN PULSE, Wednesday 14 December 2016 – Tuesday marked the start of the Leeward Islands Basketball Competition organized by the Leeward Islands Basketball Association, LIBA. This year’s tournament is being hosted by Anguilla at the Rodney Mac Arthur Rey Auditorium.
After the official ceremony, a double header was played with the first game starting at 7:00 (pm) and the final game starting at 9:00 (pm).
Nevis having fielded a team departed yesterday and played in the second encounter against host Anguilla. The game tipped off at 9:00(pm) immediately after the BVI vs Barbuda game of which the British Virgin Islands were victorious.
At the end of the first quarter between Anguilla and Nevis, Anguilla were leading the Nevis team by 6 points, 16-10. Not deterred by the lead, the Nevisian team rallied to cut the Anguilla lead to a mere point just before the half, having outscored them by 5 points, half-time score, 30-29.
Thereafter, the Anguilla team rallied to build their lead with the support of the home crowd. They dominated the third and fourth quarters respectively by scoring seven and 18 more points than Nevis as they handsomely built a huge lead. Final scores in the game, Anguilla 78 – Nevis 52.
Nevis shot 33% from the field where as Anguilla shot 46%. Nevis committed 25 turnovers. Jenerson France and Matt Harding led the Nevis team in scoring: Jenerson: 22 points, 7rebs, Matt: 13 points, 8rebs and 4 assists. J. Brooks led Anguilla with 16 points.
Nevis plays Montserrat on Thursday.

The Nevis team is comprised of the following players: Matthew Harding, (captain), Jenerson France, Kirt Hebert, Jeffrey Lewis, Karvin Smith, Cheslyn Hutton, Kareem Parry, Diquan Gerald, Dwayne Warner, Norris Williams, Hakeem Harvey and Thabiti Abrams.
