From Monday 24th July to Friday 28th July, 2017, seven (7) sailors from St Kitts and three (3) from Nevis participated in a World Sailing Level 1 Technical Course for Coaches (TCC).
The course was organized by the St Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association, the national authority representing the sport of sailing in the Federation. Thanks to funding from the St. Kitts-Nevis Olympic Committee (SKNOC), Mr Tim Cross, an expert from World Sailing, was invited to deliver the 5 day training exercise at Frigate Bay.
The Level 1 course covered topics such as:
Developing A National Training Programme
Introducing Beginners To Sailing Coaching Fundamentals
Land drills, Gybing, Getting Out Of Irons
Lesson Planning And delivery
Use Of Safety/Power Boat In The water-based environment
Management Of Sailors In A Dynamic Environment
Introduction To Racing
Upon completion of the course, attendees received certificates of participation. They have all pledged to provide coaching assistance within the Learn To Sail Programs of the Association’s members namely, the St Kitts Yacht Club and the Nevis Yacht Club.
The St Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association expressed its deepest gratitude to the SKNOC for the assistance given as it continues to foster greater interest in and enhance the overall performance of the sport of sailing.
First there were boats, then trained instructors, now it’s to discover the talent and nurture the Federation’s future sailing champions at the regional, Pan-American and eventually Olympic level.
