The closing ceremony for the LICB 50 over tournament was held last night at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium, Antigua.
Participating teams, (Antigua, St. Kitts, Anguilla, St. Maarten, Combined Virgin Islands, Nevis) gathered for the closing ceremony where the presentations of awards and trophies were given.
St. Kitts took championship honours for the second straight year while Nevis gained first runner up honours. Both teams would have won four (4) games and lost one (1). St. Kitts had the better run rate.
Having played some good cricket, both teams can boast of good batting and bowling performances.
The team effort from both teams were evident by the performances. Key performances came from Akeem Saunders, Trevor Warde, Elvin Berridge, Sheno Berridge, Adelvin Philipp, Ross Powell, Nelson Bolan, Saeed Williams, Jason Campbell and Justin Athanaze to name a few.
Trevor Warde, Ross Powell and Akeem Saunders have the distinction of posting half centuries and centuries in the tournament. All three posted one century each. Larry Audain, Jacques Taylor, Saeed Williams, Ross Powell, Adelvin Phillip all hit half centuries in the tournament.
It must be a breath of fresh air for cricket lovers in St. Kitts and Nevis to see their teams dominating Leeward Islands cricket after so many years where Antigua has dominated.
This augers well for cricket in the Federation.
