The captain of the MV Barima and two other crew members have been jointly charged with murder and were remanded to prison earlier today, Tuesday 28th July, 2026.

The three men charged for murder are: Kevin Price, called “KP”, a 40-year-old Captain of Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara; Rondell Dwayne Roberts, a 42-year-old Chief Mate of Meadow Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara; and Delon Granderson, a 33-year-old Goods Superintendent of Fellowship, West Coast Demerara.

The men appeared before Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court where the charges were formally read to them. They have since been remanded to prison as the case was adjourned to August 3, 2026, at the Charity Magistrate’s Court.

The MV Barima tragedy occurred on July 18, 2026. Of the 179 passengers on board, 76 passengers and crew members have been rescued thus far while 73 persons have been confirmed dead.
