St. Kitts advances to the finals in the Leeward Islands 50 over championship: Beating Nevis by 5 wickets. Defending champions St. Kitts will face Antigua tomorrow in pursuit of their fourth consecutive title.
Nevis winning the toss elected to bat first and were bowled out for 222. Kieran Powell topped scored with 79 while Andre Browne contributed 57. The two featured in a partnership of 130 before Powell was caught and bowled by Terrance Warde.
After Browne’s dismissal, Nevis lost 7 wickets for 61 runs. Jeremiah Louis and Warde were the pick of the bowlers for St. Kitts as they picked up 3 and 2 wickets respectively.
St. Kitts began their with a partnership of 54 between the opening pair Louis and Audain. Louis was the first to be dismissed and Audain departed when the score was on 58.
At 58-2, Warde and Saunders featured in a 32 run partnership. Saunders, the main stay during the St. Kitts innings scored his half century and featured in a partnership of 106 which ensured victory for team St. Kitts. His partner, Jacques Taylor scored 47 before he was caught by Campbell off the bowling of Archibald.
Saunders innings included 7 (4s) and 3 (6s).
With five overs remaining, St. Kitts reached their target with five wickets in hand. Akeem Saunders was not out on 77 while C. Pennyfeather was not yet off the mark.
Bowling for Nevis, Jason Campbell bagged 2 wickets while Kieran Powell, Kezron Archibald and Nelson Bolan bagged one wicket each.
St. Kitts won by 5 wickets.
