Eight days into 2019, and at least six people have been shot in St. Kitts and Nevis, (2 in Nevis, 4 in St. Kitts).
Last night shots rang out in St. Paul’s, (Lover’s Lane Alley) the aftermath revealed that three young men were shot. They sustained injuries to their legs. The incident occurred after nine.
The police has disclosed that they were able to apprehend the assailants vehicle after a chase.
Two days prior, a man identified as Kevin Phillip was shot in the leg in Newtown.
The trend began early on New year’s morn in Nevis, when 2 males were shot in the Stoney Grove area.
While investigations are ongoing in all three separate incidents, no suspects have been charged.
The 2017 amendment to the laws relating to punishment for firearm offences has had little effect on gun related crimes. For 2018, approximately 15 of 21 homicides were committed with the use of a firearm and in excess of 30 firearms seized.
