Twin Doctors Die From COVID-19 in Belize

A Belize family is in mourning after the lives of two doctors were snatched away by COVID-19 over the weekend.


The Twin brothers Dr Kevin and Dr Kenneth Guerra, died one day apart from each other.
Both doctors were fighting to keep others healthy during the pandemic.

The Belize Ministry of Health and Wellness says the brothers are Belize’s first healthcare workers to have lost their lives to complications due to COVID-19.

In a statement, the Ministry revealed that , Dr Kevin Guerra died on December 12. He worked at the Independence Polyclinic under the Ministry of Health and Wellness for five years. Dr Kenneth Guerra also lost the fight to COVID-19 on December 13. Dr Kenneth worked at the San Ignacio Community Hospital under the Ministry of Health and Wellness for three years.

The Ministry of Health further stated that:

The Guerra brothers were beloved husbands, fathers, sons, friends, and medical colleagues. They were appreciated and admired by their patients and colleagues and will be greatly missed by the communities they served.

Minister with responsibility for Health and Wellness, Hon Michel Chebat said the Ministry values the health of its frontline workers and continues to work diligently to ensure frontline workers remain prepared and equipped for any impact from COVID-19.

The Ministry also offered thoughts and prayers to all healthcare workers and all persons who are fighting the battle against the deadly virus.
