Four contestants graced the stage last night in the 2019 Miss Seniors Pageant held at the Nevis Cultural Complex; making their first appearance in the ice-breaker, Josephine Maynard – 84 years old, Jeannette Grell Hull -73 years old, Govanie Butler 74 years old and Idella Wallace – 62 years old, thrilled the packed audience and set the stage for a very entertaining yet competive pageant.
At the end of the night Ms. Idella Wallace was adjudged the 2019 Miss Senior Queen. Scoring 520 points, Idella’s announcement as winner was approved by the audience with a large applause. She won the Best Evening Wear award.
The contestants were judged in three segments namely: Sportswear, Talent and Evening Wear.
Football, Cricket, Netball and Athletics were the featured sporting disciplines while drama, dance and song were featured for the talent segment.
Jeannette Grell Hull won the Sportswear segment with 170 points.
While Josephine Maynard walked away with Best Talent after amassing 229 points.
The Best evening wear went to Idella Wallace, who scored 129 points.
Also featured during the pageant were The Seniors Steel Band and The Rhythms Pan Orchestra from Hanley’s Road. The audience was also treated to a hat parade by the seniors and renditions from the house band, the Eclectic band.
Contestants for the Miss Gingerette and Miss Gingerama also graced the stage as they were formally introduced.
Prior to the announcement of winners by chairpersons Hon. Eric Evelyn and Miss Sheilagh James, the first Miss Seniors’ Pageant Queen, Miss Mareta Hobson graced the stage in her final walk. Thereafter, the four contestants were presented with a rose, a gift basket, a participation trophy and a sash.
