Basseterre: St. Kitts, Friday, October 6, 2023: Teachers from the public and private sectors in education joined officials from the Ministry of Education and other dignitaries to celebrate World Teachers’ Day 2023 at the St. Kitts Marriott Ballroom on Thursday, October 5, 2023. This auspicious occasion was celebrated under the theme: The teachers we need for the education we want: The global imperative to reverse the teacher’s shortage.

Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, wished the teachers a Happy World Teachers’ Day and expressed his gratitude and support to them. Minister Hanley also revealed plans to incentivize teachers’ contribution.

“I say Happy Teachers’ Day 2023. As we celebrate today, I want to thank each and every one of you for the service that you provide to our nation’s youth. I appreciate your work. The Ministry of Education values your many contributions. As we celebrate our teachers, this year we intend to introduce for the very first time the Minister’s Award, and that is for the teacher of the year and the principal of the year.” He added that this would be an annual occurrence.

Addressing the already excited and expectant teachers, Mr. Anthony Morton, Executive Business Development and Marketing Manager from The St. Kitts Nevis-Anguilla National Bank, shared more incentives as he highlighted a few gifts that the bank customized in honor of World Teachers’ Day.

“As tonight is a celebration, I would like to share some fantastic news tailored especially for you, our teachers and educators. This special offer is available for both St. Kitts and Nevis and the offer is as follows: We have approved a national bank visa black card preloaded with one hundred dollars of free credit for all teachers that complete the credit card application and successfully gain this card. This limited-time offer is from October 6th to October 31st. All approved teachers will automatically enter a draw to win a makeover of their classroom. One draw will be done in St. Kitts and one will be done in Nevis and one blessed teacher from both islands will win a makeover of their classroom, but that is not all; schools with 50% or more successful applications will have a chance to win five thousand dollars.”

The cocktail reception afforded teachers the opportunity to unwind and relax as they mingled with their colleagues.
