Sprinter Tanique Richards wins St. Kitts and Nevis’ first gold medal of Special Olympics

ABU DHABI: Team St. Kitts and Nevis claimed its first gold of the Special Olympics on Saturday (Mar 16) after 16 year old Tanique Richards won the 200m sprint.

Tanique will also feature in the 100m event. With Tanique’s gold, the medal tally for Team St. Kitts and Nevis increased to two, 1 gold, 1 silver.

The Special Olympic World Games are currently being held in Abu Dhabi. It is a meet for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

At least 7,500 athletes from more than 190 nations are featuring in this edition, touted as the largest number of participants in the event’s history.

Team St. Kitts and Nevis has 13 athletes participating.
