Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 26, 2019 (RSCNPF): Hundreds of grade six students throughout the Federation will gather at Warner Park on July 01 for the second annual National Grade Six Career Jamboree to commemorate the “Moving on Up” Grade Six Transition Programme.
Crime Consultant and Social Skills Specialist, Dr. Neals Chitan said that this year, over 700 students, including approximately 150 from Nevis will gather to celebrate after the hard work they did over the past year.
“The objective is to help children go into high school more focused so we can mitigate failure, especially among boys. Once they fail there, they have no other alternatives, which would make it easier for them to join the gang sub-culture so we try to strengthen their abilities,” he said.
He noted that the children will come dressed in their career attire and said that the event is shaping up to be the biggest Career Jamboree in the nation. He further stated that they will be teaming up with the Defense Force’s Drum Core who will be leading the children in a parade around the park grounds.
Dr. Chitan added that they will have professionals from different career fields present on the day to speak with the children.
“We will have break-out sessions where people involved in law will come together, all those who want to be in entertainment and fashion will come together, and those in the medical field will come together. The professionals will be talking to them about their careers. It is going to be a very powerful day,” he said.
This event will be hosted by the Ministry of National Security and will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
