Rival gangs trade stones and bottles on Fort Street Saturday; cars smashed and shots fired at house Sunday

Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 22, 2018 – Gang rivalry which began with a stone and bottle war on Fort Street in down town Basseterre on Saturday reportedly led to a shooting incident in East Basseterre on Sunday afternoon.

According to sources rival gangs traded stones and bottles Saturday afternoon on Fort Street and the war escalated Sunday afternoon when rival gang members reportedly smashed cars on Sandown Road, opposite the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services (SKNFRS). A video of the stone throwing incident is making the rounds on social media.

Sunday afternoon wards gunfire erupted on Sandown Road when a gunman or gunmen opened fire on a house. No one inside the house was injured.

It is still unclear how many persons were involved in the shooting and the number of persons, gender and ages who were inside the house.

One source said a female was outside on the porch when one of the gunmen pointed a gun at her and started shooting.

“She said if they wanted to kill her they could have,” a person said Sunday night.
