Junior calypsonians from Anguilla, Nevis, Aruba, St. Maarten and host country St. Eustatius vied for the crown in the Battle of the Future Soca Monarch Competition in St. Eustatius last night. Nevis’ representative, Terron ‘Invincible’ Webb placed 1st runner up.
Master Blaster of Statia was crowned King.
Participants were Yohance ‘De Executor Benjamin, (Anguilla), Terron ‘Invincible’ Webb, (Nevis), Drejean ‘Master Blaster’ Canwood, (St. Eustatius), Gerline ‘Queen Lintje’ Heyliger, (Aruba) and Bertie ‘Niqo’ Nicholio, (St. Maarten).
According to initial reports out of Statia, it was a keenly contested competition. Master Blaster from Statia secured the top spot by edging out Invincible by just five points.
This is the first year the show has gone international. Previous shows consisted of all Statia participants.
Invincible will compete next during the Nevis Culturama Festivities in the Junior Calypso Show slated for the 26th of July.
