Jamaica suffered an eight-wicket defeat against the Leeward Islands in the Colonial Medical Insurance Super50 Championships.
Electing to send Jamaica to bat after winning the toss at the Conaree Cricket Ground, the Leewards were given a target of 263 to win.
At the end of 50 overs, Jamaica were 262-9 with Assad Fudadin top-scoring with 107 off 133 deliveries.
Sheeno Berridge and Jeremiah Louis were the pick of the Leeward Islands bowling attack. They both bagged two wickets each and finished with figures of 2/59 and 2/58 respectively.
Leewards began their chase aggressively. Both openers, Montcin Hodge and Kieran Powell featured in a 130 run partnership before Hodge lost his wicket for 64.
Powell took charge after as he brought up his 16th List A half century off 46 deliveries. Joined by Jangoo, the two put on a 62 run partnership before Jangoo lost his wicket for 37.
Powell and Thomas guided the Hurricanes to victory. Dropped on 95 by Fudadin, Powell reached his 4th List A Hundred off of 112 balls. Supported by the aggressive Devon Thomas, (32) Powell finished the game by hitting a six.
His innings, (121* off 125 deliveries) which was described by commentators as one of class included 3 maximums and 8 fours, (4).
Powell during an interview with Vernon Springer expressed gratitude to his wife for her support and encouragement. He also expressed thanks to former pace bowler for Nevis, John Maynard and present Hurricanes Coach, Stuart Williams.
Thus far, Powell has scores of 58 and 30.
Speaking on whether his hundred was special, he said:
Every hundred is a special hundred.

The Leeward Islands Hurricanes extend their winning streak to three with their eight wicket win over the Scorpions. Powell received Man of the Match honours and was presented with the award by former West Indies player and fellow Nevisian, Keith Arthurton.
