Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 11, 2018 – The opposition St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) has filed a Motion of No Confidence on Tuesday December 11, 2018, in Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris.
The motion has been submitted to the Clerk of the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly, Mrs. Sonia Boddie-Thompson in accordance with Standing Order 27 of the Rules of the National Assembly.
The motion of no confidence is in the name of Leader of the Opposition, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.
“I hereby give you notice of the presentation of a Motion of No Confidence, a copy of which is attached and ask that it be noted in the Order Book of the Assembly for tabling and debate as a matter of grave urgency.
“I am asking that this motion be tabled at the next sitting of the National Assembly so that it can be debated and disposed of as urgent matter,” Dr. Douglas told the Clerk.
The four-page motion resolves “that this Honourable House express grave concern that the Prime Minister represents a clear and present danger to democracy in this country and his activities have belittled and denigrated the esteemed Office of the Prime Minister and has tarnished the good name and standing of this Country both regionally and internationally;
Be it further resolved that this Honourable House no longer has any confidence in the Prime Minister and calls for the immediate resignation of the Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris as Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis.”
The National Assembly is due to meet on Wednesday in its Budget Session.
