Mushtaq Ahmed will make his return to West Indies cricket as the assistant coach.
Legendary Pakistan spinner Mushtaq Ahmed is set to take up the role of assistant coach on a permanent basis with the Windies cricket team.
The 48-year-old player joined the regional team on a short-term stint in May of this year. The role has officially now been upgraded to a long-term appointment that will require the retired spinner commit 150 days a year to the job.
Ahmed was officially expected to rejoin the team for the India tour but was prevented from doing so, having had issues getting a visa for the campaign. The former spinner will now target the team’s upcoming tour against Bangladesh to rejoin the team. The Windies will play two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is.
Following his short-term stint with the West Indies, Ahmed reprised his role as spin bowling coach of the National Cricket Academy in England. Having previously worked with England, Mushtaq was Pakistan’s bowling coach for 18 months being replaced by Azhar Mahmood last year. (Sports Max)
