First form students of the Gingerland Secondary School have captured the winning spots in both the Junior and senior categories for the local leg of the 2018 Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Essay Competition hosted by the Ministry of Tourism which was coordinated by Ms. Vanessa Webbe and Ms. Oksana Williams, (Tourism Officers).
According to a release from the government information service, an announcement from the ministry on July 18, 2018, named 12-year-old Derica Williams as the winner in the Junior Category and 13-year-old Jareecia Browne in the Senior Category.
As a result, their written work will be submitted to FCCA’s headquarters in Florida. They will represent Nevis at the regional leg of the contest.
Prospective winners will be announced by the FCCA on or before September 21, 2018.
Category winners and their school(s) will be awarded prizes. The 1st place winner will receive US$3,000, 2nd place US$1,500 and the 3rd place US $1,000. While country finalists who don’t place regionally receive US$200 each.
