St. Kitts and Nevis (SKN PULSE): Debaters from Anguilla and Nevis got the nod from judges on Friday night, being named Best Speakers in the Second and Third Debates of the 45th Annual Leeward Islands Debating competition taking place in Nevis.


With the moot: “The global rise in anti-immigration sentiments is justified”, Gabriella Brantley and Rol-J Williams opposed the moot and they presented a thorough and well researched analysis that earned Team Nevis a well deserved victory during the second night of the Leeward Islands Debating Competition.

Best speaker Rol-J Williams (Nevis)


Rol-J Williams impressed the judges to secure the Best Speaker Award. Nevis competed against Monsterrat. They were represented by Carlisle Vyphius and Anisa Lindsay.


In other LIDC news, Anguilla advances through to the semi-final after Chadd Hodge and Shakaila Carty were announced as winners of the second debate.

The male and female combo defeated Kelliann Freeman and Jeaneah Chinnery of the British Virgin Islands. 


Anguilla’s Carty secured the Best Speaker Award. 


Nevis and Anguilla will face off later this evening, Saturday 24 February at the Nevis Performing Arts Centre. Both teams will debate the moot “Lack of emphasis on the Arts will be detrimental to human development in the Caribbean.”
