SKNP, Monday 12 December, 2016 – On Saturday and Sunday evening respectively, scores of calypso lovers journeyed to Carnival Village at Warner Park to witness calypsonians perform their competition pieces in hopes of advancing to the semi-final.
From political commentary to social commentary to witty calypsoes, the calypsonians left it all on the stage.
At the end of two nights of calypso, King Socrates advanced to the semi-final round of the Sugar Mas 45 Calypso Monarch Competition as the number one ranked calypsonian. He amassed a total of 277 points.
The other semifinalists are as follows:

The two alternates are Dwight and Diamond Ace.
The semifinals is scheduled to be held on Sunday 18, December.
Seven calypsonians will be selected to compete against reigning Calypso Monarch, King Astro on finals night, (December 29).
