CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, SKN PULSE – Former MP and candidate of the main opposition Nevis Reformation Party (NRP), Elhansville R. Hector, has filed a petition in the courts challenging his defeat in the December 18 Nevis Island Administration (NIA) elections.

Hector lost the St. Paul’s Parish constituency by 11 votes to Spencer Brand as the Concerned Citizens Movement regained control of the NIA winning four of the five seats that were at stake in the polls.

Hector and the Nevis Reformation Party wants the Court to declare the elections void based on a number of irregularities.

Prior to the election, the NRP had the High Court rule in their favour when 13 voter names were reinstated to the voters list in the St. James District.

While Hector and the Nevis Reformation Party are tight lipped about what specific grounds they are challenging the results on, former Leader of the Nevis Reformation Party Hon. Joseph Parry in a News Year’s address stated that ” the party feels that there were a number of irregularities committed both in the electoral Office and elsewhere to warrant his objecting and going to court on this very serious matter”

Parry in that said address solicited the supporters of the NRP and the public as a whole to support the challenge “because it is very important that we have free and fair elections every time.

The respondents in the petition are: Spencer Brand, (CCM Candidate) – First Respondent, Elvin Bailey, (Supervisor of Elections) – Second Respondent, Calvin Fahie, (Registration Officer for the District of St. Paul) – Third Respondent, Attorney General of St. Christopher and Nevis – Fourth Respondent.
