(EMU) – St. Kitts, October 22, 2018: The Ministry of Education through its executing department, the Curriculum Development Unit, invites the general public to the Federation’s First National STEM Fair slated for November 8-9 at the Independence Square.
Under the theme: “Inspiring the Next Generation’, the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, (STEM) fair was organized to help students and citizens learn about the exciting things in STEM and how it plays a pivotal role, globally, in the fields of medicine, manufacturing and others.
After hosting their school’s STEM Fair, each institution was asked to register their students’ projects, with a maximum of five (5) entries per school. The contest will be judged in three (3) categories for the primary and two (2) categories for the high school students. Experienced judges will critique the projects for qualities including presentation, clarity and originality.
Judging will begin at 10:00 a.m. on 8 November and the winner and runner-ups will be announced by end of day on November 9.
According to Science and STEM Fair Coordinator Olston Strawn, the Ministry is extending an invitation to the general public for this inaugural event as the nation’s scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians of the future display their discoveries. This is a tremendous opportunity to encourage and be inspired. Exhibits from tertiary level institutions will also be on display.
The First National Science Fair intends to support the youth in developing a strong foundation and passion for STEM and foster their creativity and critical thinking skills which are necessary for any career path.
