(EMU) – St. Kitts, March 15, 2018: SKN Student Athletes and coaches recently participated in a U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs sponsored initiative.
The United States Embassy to Barbados, the Eastern Caribbean, and the OECS hosted an Interactive Facebook-Live event on Wednesday 14th March, around the topic ‘Student – Athlete Recruitment.’
The event was hosted at the EducationUSA advising centre on St. Kitts, the Charles A. Halbert Public Library, and facilitated by National Collegiate Athletic Association representative, assisted by local adviser Mrs. Petrine Clarke-Whyte. It targeted students and their parents, along with coaches within the Federation, focusing on the recruitment process for student athletes aspiring to study and play sports at U.S. Colleges and Universities in the United States.
The informative session expounded on student-athlete admission protocol, scholarships and financial aid opportunities, the visa requirements as well as the prospect of life as a student in an American College or University.
Adviser, Mrs. Petrine Clarke-Whyte, noted that this session is just the first in a series; and it is their intent to host supplementary sessions in the near future. She declared, “Occasionally, EducationUSA will host future initiatives such as this and information will be shared in a timely manner. Interested persons are welcome to visit the centre and leave their contact information so resources could be shared with them in the future.”
Student athlete, Kizivor Jeffers of the Saddlers Secondary School was in attendance for the Facebook-Live event, after she expressed her excitement about of the prospect of attending school and playing sports at a U.S. University and assured that she would research further.
“Attending a school in the U.S. would be a great experience for me personally, a life change, it should be very exciting,” the athlete said.
