Later today, Mrs. Cleone Stapleton-Simmonds, the representative for Nevis #5, St. Thomas’ will be sworn in as the first elected Nevis Reformation Party Woman Parliamentarian and sole member of the opposition benches. The sitting commences at 11am.
She was victorious in the by-election for constituency #5 which was held on March 05, 2020. She beat her opponent Mr. Keith Scarborough of the Concerned Citizens Movement by 323 votes, (514-191).
Subsequent to receiving her instruments of appointment Hon. Cleone Stapleton-Simmonds will be partaking in an emergency session to consider, adopt and approve a resolution which extended the state of emergency for a period up to 6 months.
The resolution was passed in the Federal Parliament yesterday, Friday April 17.
