Carla Barnett reappointed Caricom Secretary-General

The Caribbean Community (Caricom) Heads of Government have agreed to the reappointment of Carla Barnett as Secretary-General, following deliberations at their Fiftieth Regular Meeting held in Saint Kitts and Nevis from February 24 to 27, 2026.

In a statement, Terrance Drew, CARICOM Chair, confirmed that the required majority supported the decision.

Dr Barnett will begin her second term in August 2026, serving a further five years continuing her leadership of the regional body headquartered in Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown.

Barnett was selected as the first female Secretary-General of Caricom in 2021. She succeeded Ambassador Irwin LaRocque.
