(EMU) – St. Kitts, May 1, 2018: The final round of competition for the inaugural edition of the Alliance Française of St. Kitts-Nevis, French Singing Contest was held at the Sandy Point Community Center on Saturday 28th April.
After a keenly contested competition, Zareef Dias of the Verchilds High School, out-sang the other competitors with the song, Claude François: Ceete Annèe-Là (Oh What A Night), to be adjudged the winner. 1st Runner up was Turquoisa Henry and Terron Webb took the 2nd runner up position.
The competition targeted high school students around the Federation with a passion for the French language. It also proved to be an opportunity for students to practice the language.
The contest officially opened in March, and after preliminary and elimination rounds, resulted fifteen finalists. They competed on Saturday for round trip tickets for two plus accommodations to Paris and other elaborate prizes.
The Ministry of Education, through the Charles E. Mills Secondary School partnered with the Alliance Française for this edition of the competition and proceeds will fund an afterschool programme at the school.
The Alliance Française of St. Kitts-Nevis is geared to transmitting the French language and culture by means of teaching the oral and written language, professional French, literature.
