PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, Nov 06 2016 – The discovery of approximately US$2 million in a container at the Port of Point Lisas has prompted a full investigation by the police, Interpol and regional agencies.
A release from the Port Lisas Industrial Development Company says the cargo containing the money arrived here Wednesday aboard one of the company’s scheduled container carriers.
The release said that using normal protocol, the customs officers and port officers referred a flat rack containing ply board to the Point Lisas Container Examination Station (CES) for further review.
The contents were checked by customs and police officers who discovered the money.
The Newsday newspaper reports that authorities in Jamaica will be contacted to assist in the high-profile probe.
