A Tropical Storm named Kirk formed well south of the Cabo Verde Islands earlier today. It is expected to move quickly westward across the deep tropical Atlantic over the next few days.
The center of the tropical storm was located near latitude 8.3 north, longitude 23.6 west. According to the National Hurricane Centre (NHC), Kirk is moving towards the west near 14 miles per hour or 22 kilometres per hour and a westward to west northwestward motion at a similar forward speed is expected to continue through tonight.
The Tropical Storm Advisory said, “a faster westward motion across the deep tropical Atlantic Ocean is expected Sunday through Tuesday.”
“Maximum sustained winds are near 40 miles per hour or 65 kilometres per hour with higher gusts. Some strengthening is expected through Sunday with little change in intensity forecast on Monday and Tuesday, the NHC stated in its 11a.m. public advisory.”
