Taipei City and Basseterre Sign Sister City Agreement to Advance Taiwan–St. Kitts and Nevis Cooperation

Taipei City and Basseterre, the capital of Saint Kitts and Nevis, officially signed a Sister City Agreement on November 13. The agreement was concluded by Taipei Mayor Wayne Chiang and the Ambassador of Saint Kitts and Nevis to Taiwan, H.E. Donya Francis, and witnessed by Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew and Taipei City Council Speaker Tai Hsi-Chin.

Mayor Chiang remarked, “Our friendship spans 42 years, and this affiliation is a crucial milestone. We look forward to deepening cooperation and enhancing substantive ties in areas such as education, culture, commerce, tourism, and smart city development.”

Prime Minister Drew expressed his hope that Basseterre and Taipei will enhance exchanges in smart governance, sustainable development, education, and culture, and share best practices to advance mutual prosperity.

The Embassy noted that Taipei and Basseterre have maintained active exchanges in recent years, including Taipei’s donation of 50 YouBikes in 2023 and Basseterre’s participation in the Taipei Lantern Festival for three consecutive years. The new Sister City relationship will further strengthen practical collaboration between the two cities and reinforce the longstanding friendship between Taiwan and Saint Kitts and Nevis.
