Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 20, 2018 – The opposition St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) has its first female Deputy National Leader.

Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher 2 (Central Basseterre), Hon. Marcella Liburd was elected unopposed at the business session of the 86th Annual Conference at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort on Saturday night.

Liburd, a two-term parliamentarian previously served as chairperson. She replaced former Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Earl Asim Martin who did not seek re-election.

Liburd, a lawyer by profession, also served in the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly as Senator, Deputy Speaker and Speaker.

She held the portfolio of Health, Community and Social Development and Gender Affairs in the last Labour Party cabinet of the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.
