BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, July 2, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, is in Jamaica where he is expected to pursue bilateral and regional discussions on the margins of the 39th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM.
The high-level regional meeting will be held at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, from July 4 – 6, under the Chairmanship of the Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Honourable Andrew Holness. The Conference will also welcome its newest member, Prime Minister of Barbados, the Honourable Mia Mottley, who was elected to office following the country’s May 24 General Elections.
President of the Republic of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, and President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, were also invited to attend this week’s conference as special guests.
The 39th Regular Meeting of the Conference will be preceded by the 18th Meeting of the Council for Finance and Planning (COFAP) on the morning of Wednesday, July 4. Prime Minister Harris is the Minister of Finance in the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Following the official opening ceremony on Wednesday, July 4, the CARICOM heads will then meet in plenary and caucus on July 5 – 6 to discuss matters of importance to the Caribbean Community, including measures impacting the implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), disaster management and climate change, crime and security in the region and emerging geo-political developments, which can have an impact on the region’s growth prospects.
Prime Minister Harris, who is the Lead Head for Human Resources, Health and HIV, in the CARICOM Quasi Cabinet, is being accompanied by Senior Minister, the Honourable Vance Amory; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Kaye Bass; Comptroller of the St. Kitts and Nevis Department of Inland Revenue, Mr. Edward Gift, and Mr. Adrian Ward, also of the St. Kitts and Nevis Department of Inland Revenue.
