The Caribbean Football Union (CFU) U-14 Caribbean Challenge Series ended on Sunday at the Warner Park Football Stadium, with St. Vincent and the Grenadines coming out on top as the winners in a five team pool. Host side St. Kitts and Nevis were edged out 1-0 in the very last two minutes of regulation time in their match against Dominica. Jason Joseph was the goal scorer for Dominica, bundling the ball over the line in the 72nd minute of play.

Coach Stanton Seraphin of Dominica said his players saw out the game because of their fitness and defensive discipline. “We started the match very shaky. And I think we started a bit slow in the first half. The guys were not so comfortable on the ball and made it very easy for St. Kitts but I think what has gotten us through this tournament was our defensive discipline and I think the defense kept us in the game in the first half,” he said. “As the time went on we grew into the game and I must say the level of fitness of my guys always show in these matches,” Coach Seraphin said.

Sitting in for Coach Delvin Harris of St. Kitts was Assistant Coach Alex Claxton. “I think that first of all we had our opportunities and we didn’t make use of them. As a result of that, Dominica they continue to pressure us and when we needed to defend well on the left side, the error came,” Coach Claxton said. He said that to improve, the players will have to learn to play in transition and make penetrating passes
Meanwhile, on Friday Coach Harris thanked the St. Kitts and Nevis fans for their unwavering support throughout the tournament, the players and the coaches for their work. “For the fans, we really want to thank them,” he said.
Meanwhile on Sunday in the first match of the day, St. Vincent and the Grenadines demolished Antigua and Barbuda 4-0.
