Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 27, 2018 (SKNIS): His Excellency, Sir S.W. Tapley Seaton, Governor General of St. Kitts and Nevis, was presented with the first official copy of the magazine of the organizing committee of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court at a brief but significant ceremony at Government House on Friday, July 27. The ceremony marked the launch of the magazine in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Inauguration of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC).
Terence V. Byron, Attorney at Law, and Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Organizing Committee for the ECSC 50th Anniversary Celebrations, said that the magazine is the work of a sub-committee of the organizing committee and is just one of few published by the various High Courts in the ECSC region.
“In the magazine there are some notable articles and there are a lot of photographs. There are many lawyers’ photographs in this magazine and we are expecting that every lawyer in St. Kitts and Nevis will rush to buy his or her own copy,” said Mr. Byron. “In this magazine you will find some nuggets of information. There is an excerpt from the wonderful history of the Court by the late Sir Probyn Innis.”
Sir Tapley echoed his delight of being chosen for the presentation of the first official publication of the magazine. He also thanked all who played a role in ensuring that it was successfully completed.
“I think I deem it a great honour that Government House and the Governor General have been chosen for this magazine to be presented. I have had the advantage of course as one who have contributed… and I can commend it all,” said the governor general, while commending the dedication of the committee members who ensured that all the activities planned for the ECSC’s 50thAnniversary celebrations were successful, in particular, the production of the magazine. “I think it encapsulates so much of the history of the legal profession and the immense contribution that has been made to the society in St. Kitts and Nevis.”
The governor general added that it was important to have a production of such magazine so as to have some evidence of and the contribution of the legal profession over the years. He encouraged all to purchase a copy which can be obtained from the Registrar’s Offices in both St. Kitts and Nevis for EC $50.
According to Mr. Byron, proceeds from the sale of the magazine will be able to further assist the needy. He noted that proceeds from activities held in December 2017 went towards neighbouring islands such as Dominica, Anguilla, Tortola and Barbuda, that were ravaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
The magazine was presented to His Excellency Seaton by Co-chair of the Committee, Her Ladyship Madame Justice Pearletta Lanns, Resident Judge of St. Kitts. The ceremony was also attended by High Court Registrar, Janine Harris-Lake and other persons within the legal profession, as well as specially invited guests.
