Lubbock, Texas, March 9, 2025 – Monroe University track and field coach Shirvon Greene has once again copped the USTFCCA Atlantic Region Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year.
On March 8, 2025, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the various region awards for the 2025 indoor season. Greene, student athletes, Attoya Harvey, Tinashe Bure, Brinel Thomas, and Assistant Coach Shanique McKenzie-Daniel were all named as recipients for top awards for the Atlantic Region.

Men’s Coach of the Year – Shirvon Greene
Since Coach Greene was promoted to Head Coach of the Track and Field Team in 2021, he has won both of the awards ever since. This year, Greene led the Mustangs Men to the No. 1 team ranking in the Region. Regionally, his athletes currently hold the No.1 spots in a region high six events (800m, 1000m, Mile, 3000m, 4×4 and DMR). Coach Greene produced a region high of 10 national qualifiers for the national championships across the following events; (400m, 800m 1000m, DMR and 4x400m). Additionally, Greene athletes rank in the top-2 of the region in a total of 10 events (60m, 200m, 400m, 600m, 800m, 1000m, Mile, 3K, DMR and 4×4.
Women’s Coach of the Year – Shirvon Greene
Coach Greene also led the Mustang Women to the No.1 team ranking in the Atlantic Region. The women athletes also hold the No.1 spots in a region high nine events (60mh, 200m, 400m, 600m, 800m, 1K, Mile, 3K, LJ, 4×4 and DMR) Greene produced a region high eight national qualifiers for the national Championships across the nine events (60mh, 200m, 400m, 600m, 800m, 1k, Mile, 3K, LJ, 4×4 and DMR). Nationally, his team ranks #19.
Women’s and Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year – Shanique McKenzie-Daniel

Greene’s assistant, Coach Shanique McKenzie-Daniel, was selected as the Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year for both men and women as well. McKenzie-Daniel assisted in leading the Mustang men to a region high six events (800m, 1k, Mile, 3K, 4×4, and DMR). She also assisted in producing a region high ten national qualifiers for the national championships across six events.
Likewise, she accomplished the same feat to win the Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year award.
Atlantic Region Women’s Athlete of the Year – Attoya Harvey

Student athlete Attoya Harvey copped the Atlantic Region Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. She qualified in a region high six events for the national Championships and ranked no.1 in the region in a season high five events as well.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Year – Brinel Thomas

Brinel Thomas copped the Women’s Field Athlete of the Year. She jumped the furthest in the region in the long jump. Further, she ranked #1 in the region for Long Jump at 5.66m and ranked eleventh nationally. Thomas secured a 6th-place finish in the long jump at the NJCAA Indoor Championships and secured a spot on the podium for the Monroe Mustangs.
