Bronx, New York, March 5, 2018 – Last week Thursday in Lubbock, Texas, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the Atlantic Region Indoor Track and Field Award winners at an official ceremony prior to the start of the National Indoor Championships. Among them was Nevisian, Shirvon Greene of Monroe Mustang fame. He won his fourth consecutive Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year Award as well as his third Women’s Assistant Coach of the Year Award.
A humbled Greene informed SKN PULSE that the awards he received were as a result of team work.
He indicated that the Mustang’s Head-coach Lesleigh Hogg was selected as the Atlantic Region Coach of the Year for both the men and women.
Sophomore athletes Dawnel Collymore and Kasique Oliver were named the Atlantic Region Men’s and Women’s Track Athlete of the Year respectively. While freshman, Chisom Enekwechi was selected as the Atlantic Region Men’s Field Athlete of the Year.
Both Hogg and Greene have guided the Monroe Mustangs Track and Field to an improved National ranking. Prior to the National Indoor Championships, the women were ranked 7th while the men were ranked 9th. Under their leadership, the Mustang’s had 22 qualifying spots in the recently held NJCAA National Indoor Championships.
In speaking about the Athletes, Greene emphasized that, “they are very committed”. “Collymore ranks in the top 10 in the 600-metee dash ( o.10k, the 800-meter run (No.2) and the 1, 000- meter run (No.3)” said Greene.
Oliver ranks fifth in the nation. In the 609-meter dash, third in the 800-meter run and third in the 1,000-meter event.
The 2018 NJCAA Track and Field National Championships took place at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas from Friday, March 2, to Saturday, March 3.
