Permanent Mission of Saint Kitts and Nevis is
pleased to announce that the artwork of acclaimed national artist, Mr. Vaughn Anslyn, “Mosaic – A Woman of Power in an Everyday World,” is being featured as the official poster design for the IX Inter-American Week for People of African Descent in the Americas.
The event, hosted by the Organization of American States (OAS), will be held under the theme “Equality that Inspires, Freedom that Transforms, and a Hemisphere that Leads”, from March 23–27, 2026, and forms part of the hemispheric observance recognizing the contributions, heritage, and cultural impact of people of African descent across the Americas. Mr. Anslyn’s striking piece, characterized by its vibrant mosaic composition and powerful
portrayal of feminine strength and resilience, was selected to visually represent this year’s theme and message. The artwork reflects both the diversity and unity of Afro-descendant identity, while celebrating the enduring role of women in shaping communities and societies.
The original artwork is currently on display at the Art Museum of the Americas (AMA),
following Mr. Anslyn’s win in the Mission’s 2024 art competition. During the official handover ceremony, Mr. Anslyn shared the deeply personal inspiration behind “Mosaic”, his mother, Gloria Anslyn, explaining that the piece serves as a tribute to her resilience, strength, and beauty, and by extension, to women everywhere. He expressed his deep honour in knowing that the work would be permanently displayed in such a distinguished institution in the United States. Mr. Anslyn is widely recognized for his evocative works inspired by island life and Caribbean themes, capturing the vibrancy, spirit, and cultural richness of the region.

The IX Inter-American Week for People of African Descent will feature a series of high-level discussions, cultural showcases, and policy dialogues aimed at promoting inclusion, equity, and recognition for people of African descent throughout the hemisphere.
