SKN PULSE – Cruise giant Royal Caribbean is replacing calls in Irma-ravaged St. Thomas and St. Martin on upcoming sailings with visits to St. Kitts and St. Croix.
According to USA TODAY, in a tweet to a passenger early Thursday, the line said Sunday’s departure of its 5,400-passenger Allure of the Seas has been modified to feature a stop at Basseterre, St. Kitts instead of St. Maarten — the Dutch side of the island of St. Martin.
The Eastern Caribbean cruise also includes stops in San Juan, Puerto Rico and Nassau in The Bahamas.
As a result of the damage in St. Thomas and St. Martin, they could be off cruise schedules for months.
Through their active Twitter account Royal Caribbean issued a tweet that said the Sept. 23 departure of its 5,479-passenger Harmony of the Seas — the world’s largest cruise ship — would feature St. Kitts instead of the island of St. Thomas. The Eastern Caribbean sailing also includes a call in San Juan and Labadee, Royal Caribbean’s private beach getaway in Haiti.
Further, a third tweet said Saturday’s sailing of Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas would head to St. Croix instead of St. Maarten.
This move by Royal Caribbean is welcoming news for Tourism Authority in both St. Kitts and St. Croix.
