Prime Minister Gaston Browne Announces April 30 as General Election Date

St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda – 7th April, 2026 — Prime Minister Gaston Browne has officially announced April 30th as the date for General Elections in Antigua and Barbuda, signaling the commencement of the constitutional electoral process.
The Prime Minister confirmed that the election writ has been issued, setting in motion the formal procedures leading to national polls. Nomination Day has been scheduled for Monday, April 13, 2026.

In addressing party supporters at the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party Headquarters, Prime Minister Browne emphasized the importance of civic participation and urged all eligible voters to ensure they are prepared to exercise their democratic right.

“This election represents a defining moment for our nation. The future of Antigua and Barbuda rests in the hands of its people. I urge every elector to renew their registration cards where necessary and to come out early and vote on Election Day,” the Prime Minister stated.

He further underscored that the election will determine the continuation of the country’s development trajectory, calling on citizens to make a deliberate and informed choice.

Over the weekend, Prime Minister Browne formally dispatched  correspondence to key international and regional partners regarding the upcoming general elections in Antigua and Barbuda, following the dissolution of Parliament on Wednesday, 1 April 2026.

Letters were sent to the Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM),  H.E. Ms. Carla Barnett; the Secretary-General of the Organization of American States, H.E. Mr. Albert Ramdin; and the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Secretariat, Hon Shirley Botchwey to formally notify them of the dissolution of Parliament and the pending general elections.
