St. John’s Antigua – The Leeward Islands Hurricanes have surpassed expectations thus far in this year’s Regional Super50 Tournament. Earlier today, the Hurricanes posted the highest score of this year’s WICB Super50 Tournament. At the end of their innings, they were 333/6 off their allotted 50 overs.
Having been sent into bat by the Windward Islands Volcanoes, captain Kieran Powell capitalized on the fast outfield and led the charge for the Leewards.

The left handed Powell hit a stroke filled 135 off 137 balls with 10×4 and 4×6. A man on a mission, Powell has now hit two centuries in three days while earning his career best List A score. He fell 10 runs short of the Leewards all time regional 50-overs record of 145 not out made by Edward Lewis against Barbados at Kensington Oval in 1985.
The Nevisian added 95 for the sixth wicket with vice captain, Rahkeem Cornwall who posted 70 not out off 60 balls with 4×4, 5×6.
The Windward Islands batting failed to impress. They were bowled out in 28.1 overs for 149. Mayers top-scored with 45 and Darren Sammy posted 33 in a losing effort.
Young West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph utilized the home advantage and showcased his superb bowling skills as he finished with 6/31, a career best. He was ably supported by Tongue who collected two wickets and Cooper and Cornwall who both collected one a piece.
The Leeward Islands Hurricanes won by 184 runs. They remain on-top in their zone with 12 points.
