ST JOHN’S, Antigua, SKN PULSE– A flamboyant century from captain Kieran Powell, a three-wicket haul from Test speedster Alzarri Joseph and 2 wickets apiece from Hosein and Campbell inspired Leeward Islands Hurricanes to a crushing 105-run victory over Kent Spitfires.
Winning the toss and batting first at the Coolidge Cricket Grounds, the Hurricanes posted a total of 275/9 off of their allotted 50 overs.
The left-handed Powell gave the Antiguan supporters much to cheer for as he hit a stroked filled 106 off 111 balls. Dropped on 94, Powell made good on the chance given by reaching his hundred in grand style, (100 of 109 balls, 5×4, 3×6)
Kieran has now hit three centuries in this year’s tournament. He also has the distinction of being the first player to score 400 runs in the WICB Regional Super 50 competiton.
West Indies A all-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall blasted 43 off 28 deliveries while Gavin Tongue scored 28 not out off 15 balls.
Kent Spitfires were bowled out for 170. They were 60-4 after the 15th over. Blake top-scored with 44 and Coles scored 27. Young West Indian fast bowler, Alzarri Joseph picked 3/62 while Campbell and Hosein pick up 2 wickets respectively.
