The Nevis Island Administration has contributed significantly to the upcoming Gala Event honouring Elquemedo T. Willett MBE.
At a brief handing over ceremony on Wednesday at the ETW Park, Minister with responsibility for sports, Hon. Troy Liburd made a monetary donation of $50, 000 to the Nevis Cricket Association on behalf of the Nevis Island Administration.
The cheque was received by President of the Nevis Cricket Association, Carlisle Powell.
Liburd indicated that in response to a request made, the $50,000.00 cheque was the NIA’s contribution to the upcoming Gala event, honouring Elquemedo Willett MBE.
On March 09, 2023, Elquemedo Willett MBE will be honoured at a ‘Classy at 50’, a Gala event hosted by the Nevis Cricket Association to mark the 50thanniversary of when he became a test cricketer.
Willett, made his debut as a 19-year-old against Australia on March 9-14, 1973.
Willett played in five Tests from 1972 to 1974 and was considered the best of many left-arm finger-spinners during New Zealand’s tour of the West Indies in 1972.
