SKN PULSE – From Nevis to Grenada from Grenada to Antigua from Antigua to St. Kitts from Barbados to London and from London to New Zealand: To be a youth in this day and age, the power of possibilities lies in their hands. The journey Kian has taken thus far is evident that there shouldn’t be any turning back now: his determination and hard work is paying dividends.

It is our belief that Young Pemberton looks at the game of Cricket with fresh eyes, such lively determination and a sense to be a game changing force for the West Indies U19 Team. Thus it is for that reason, we here at SKN PULSE has chosen Kian as our Person of the Year for 2017.
Kian Pemberton hails from Government Road just a few blocks away from the hero of Nevis Cricket, Elquemedo Willett – the first Nevisian and Leeward Island Cricketer to turn out in West Indian colours in 1973 in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Having started playing cricket while attending the Charlestown Primary School, Pemberton had the privilege of learning first hand from coach Willett. The nuturing from the Government Road All-Stars team and the Government Road Community has kept Kian grounded and humbled. As a member of the Pennyless All-Stars team, Kian is following in the footsteps of Stuart Williams and Carl Tuckett as he continues to improve year after year.
Kian’s inclusion in the West Indies training squad for 2015 -2016 was indiciation enough that he was something special. While he never made the final cut to tour South Africa with the West Indies Youth team then; his perseverance, his diligence and ambition continued to soar.

One cricket enthusiast on Caribbean Cricket said “Kian Pemberton is unheard of but he looks very quick” while another remarked “normally fast bowlers don’t bag much in these competitions these days but he is leading the pack”. Those sentiments came after Pemberton would have returned figures of 4/29 back in 2016 against Guyana.
He received man of the match honours.
Earlier this year against Jamaica he bagged 4/28 during the West Indies U19 Regional Tournament. Previously against Guyana, he picked up 4 wickets for 35 runs. Later on in the tournament he also bagged 2-41 against the Windward Islands.
More than ever, Kian is ready to show the world stage what he has to offer. As he indicated in an interview with Curtis Morton, he is, “truly up to the challenge of representing the defending champions along with his team-mates’. Regarded as one the leading fast bowlers for the West Indies U19, great things are expected of the 18 year old speedster, who has worked hard and shown discipline to the game of Cricket.

Young Pemberton acknowledges the hard work of Stuart Williams, Carl Tuckett, Kelly Archibald, Masefield Nisbett and ‘Trini’ Charles as well as his fellow team-mates of the Pennyless All-Stars, family and friends.
SKN PULSE wishes Kian the very best on this present tour and in his future endeavours, continue to aspire for the highest!
