Honourable Jonel Powell, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture officially laid the National Sports Policy before the Federal Parliament on Thursday 15 October. The National Sports Policy serves as a guide to chart a way forward for sports development within St. Kitts and Nevis.
The National Sports Policy 2020-2025 ushers in a new era for sport in St. Kitts and Nevis, providing guidance for the oversight and direction of sports, physical education, physical activity and recreation over the next five years.
According to Minister Powell, the policy is designed for all of St. Kitts and Nevis. It includes children, elderly, persons with disabilities and athletes who represent schools, clubs and national teams.
The policy embraces the powerful medium of sport to address issues affecting youth in schools and communities; to promote healthy and active lifestyles; to support pathways for excellence, and to generate new revenue streams and economic activity for this Federation.
The process to develop a National Sports Policy began in 2017 with input from local, regional stakeholders.
