Michelle Slack Elected President of the Nevis Island Assembly

Hon. Slack, LLB (Hons), LL.M (Dist), a practicing attorney in a private law firm on Nevis, was elected to preside over the Assembly during the opening session of the new parliamentary term on January 19, 2023.

In 2021, Hon. Slack was named a 2021 Chevening Scholar from the Barbados and Eastern Caribbean region. She successfully pursued a Master of Laws (LLM) in Drafting Legislation, Regulation and Policy at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, School of Advanced Study, University of London.

Slack holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree with First Class Honours from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados and a Legal Education Certificate from the Council of Legal Education.

Prior to joining a private law firm, Slack worked at the Legal Department of the Nevis Island Administration as a Legal Assistant, and as an Assistant to the Regulator at the Nevis Financial Services Regulatory and Supervision Department assisting with ensuring compliance in the Financial Services Sector, and assisting with legislative conformity with the recommendations of international standard setting organizations such as the Financial Action Task Force.

Slack replaces Mr Farrel Smithen, who was first nominated as President of the Nevis Ispans Assembly in 2013, following the 2012 Nevis Island Assembly election. The former President served for 10 years.
