Leeward Islands opened their campaign with a 198-run win over Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) Marooners on the first day of the CWI Colonial Medical Insurance Super50 tournament.
Defending champions, Marooners won the toss and elected to field, a decision that puzzled commentators.
With Warner Park being a batsman paradise, the Leewards took full advantage of batting first.
Led by Thomas, the Hurricanes scored 292/7 in 50 overs. Thomas topped scored with 105 off 97 deliveries. His knock included 10 boundaries.
Amir Jangoo was the other main contributor with a solid 39.
CCC in chasing the target lost early wickets. Cornwall and Berridge stifled CCC’s effort to chase down 292. Hurricanes secured the victory by a 198 run margin.
Combined Campuses and Colleges Marooners made 94 for 9. Cornwall bagged 4/29 while Berridge took 3/39.
