SKN PULSE – A career best from Jeremiah Louis helped set the foundation for a Leeward Islands Hurricanes win over Barbados earlier today at Kensington Oval.
Having to commence the game a day before the other teams due to the state funeral of former Barbados Governor General, Sir Clifford Husband’s scheduled to be held tomorrow, Leeward Islands came out to impress.
Having won the toss the Leeward Islands sent Barbados Pride to bat. Louis who found the pitch helpful grabbed 6 wickets for 69 runs in 14.2 overs as Barbados were bowled out before tea on the first day for 113.
The Leewards Islands made a fair attempt during their innings as they posted 233 all-out. Jeremiah Louis topped scored with sixty-two, (62) and anchored the innings for his time as wickets fell at a rapid paste. Significant contributions came from wicket keeper bastman Devon Thomas and Spin bowler, Jason Campbell. Campbell featured in a valuable 50 run partnership with Jeremiah Louis.
The Louis-Campbell last wicket combination gave the Leewards extra wiggle room for the bowlers to work their magic.
Barbados feared no better in their second innings as they had to overcome a 117 run deficit. However, the Leewards had other plans as Tongue came out aggressive and focused as he picked up two early wickets.
Tongue ripped through the remainder of the Barbados innings as he bagged 6 wickets for 21 runs in 12 overs with 6 maidens. Louis provided the necessary support as he bagged 3/43.
The Leeward Islands won by an innings and four, (4) runs.
